Tuckahoe Village West is a community in the far west end of Henrico County. Its the community that David first lived in when he came to RVA, living in a tri-level on Westshire Lane. Today, the community continues to thrive, with wonderful single-family homes with an average sales price of $244,000 in 2017.

Canterbury is a wonderful community in western Henrico, bordered by Gaskins Road and Pump Road. This is a sought after community in close proximity to Godwin High School. Average sales price for 2017 for this community is $339,000.

A fantastic community in the northside of Henrico. Did you know what Lakeside got its name from the lake at Jefferson Lakeside Country Club? Lewis Ginter built Lakeside Lake by damning a creek running through what is now Jefferson Lakeside Country Club. The Lakeside Park offered a cafe, billards, a casino, and other attractions (see // Today, the Lakeside area has made a rebound of sorts, and is a wonderful community to live and work in. This is one of my favorite areas; I courted my wife when she lived there, and my first home was located in Lakeside (behind Francos Clothing on Bloomingdale Avenue). Many of the houses in Lakeside were built in the 1950’s as post-WWII housing, and some great starter homes can be found in this area.

Glen Allen means a lot of things to a lot of people. For me, it was building my first house in the Deer Springs subdivision near “downtown Glen Allen”. Near the site of the Glen Allen Masonic Temple, historic Glen Allen Baptist Church, the subdivision of Deer Springs was built on what was the former Forest Lodge resort, created by civil war solder John Cussons. Forest Lodge was a resort built with easy access to the Glen Allen train station, which existed next to what is now the Glen Allen Market on Mountain Road. Houses in Deer Springs tend to sell in the mid-200’s and have served many families as their bringing-up-kids phase of life. Deer Springs is served by great schools like Glen Allen Elementary, Hungary Creek Middle, School, and Glen Allen High School, which are major attraction points for homes for sale in this part of Henrico.

Looking for a neighborhood with strong home values, a strong neighborhood association, served by wonderful schools? Hunton Estates can be your answer. Located off of Mill Road, Hunton estates has homes from 3500 sq ft to over 5000 sq ft. Homes prices are in the the high $400s to $600s, and often have four to six bedrooms. I have lived in this neighborhood, and still own property there today.

Looking for a maintenance free lifestype in the west end / north side area of Henrico? CrossRidge is your ticket! CrossRidge has five distinct neighborhoods, each with its own association. This is an “age-restricted” community, where age-qualified residents are 55 of age and over. I bought here when I was less than 55, so you can purchase if you are not age qualified if enough residents are over 55. No residents can be under 18, so this is not your community if you still have children in school. CrossRidge has active residents, which often can be found at the community center near the front of the development. The “Pavilion” has two pools, one outdoors, and one indoor saline pool! It also features a complete exercise room, pool table, and there are often wine & cheese and other events to keep residents entertained! Most units are CrossRidge have a garage, and the community is gated for additional security.

If you are looking for an active and upcoming community, Rocketts Landing may be it! Rocketts was Henrico’s first mixed-use community, and it straddles the line between the City of Richmond (where the Boathouse and the Conch Republic are located) and Henrico, where the residential units are located. Rocketts has the condo buildings of Fall Line, Skyline, 210 Rock (all new construction), and Cedar Works (refurbished industrial). It also features townhomes, including some very exclusive townhomes on the bank of the James River. Rocketts features the Capital Trail, right out front of the community! With easy access to the City, but with the lower Henrico tax rate, this is a great community for new couples and those that are post-school age children.
